USC FOOTBALL USC reworks calendar for Oregon State

Sunday was Tuesday, today is Thursday and Wednesday will be Friday.

Confusing as that may read or sound, that is how top-ranked USC set up its week of preparation for its Pacific 10 opener at Oregon State on the real Thursday night.

"As long as you shift gears properly and get your days right, it’s not an issue," Coach Pete Carroll said today during his weekly news conference.

USC is 4-0 in Thursday night games, but the Trojans face a challenge at Reser Stadium.

USC survived Oregon State — and the fog that enshrouded the stadium — in 2004, but the Trojans lost, 33-31, in 2006 when a Beavers defensive lineman tipped away a two-point conversion pass.

"I don’t know that there’s anything magical about it," Oregon State Coach Mike Riley said of using that upset as motivation for the Trojans. "They were awfully good and we’ve got to play our best."

Riley said that Lyle Moevao would start at quarterback for the Beavers and it was "probably a reach" to say that Sean Canfield would be available as the back-up.

Asked if he was going to bring in fog machines for Thursday night’s game, Riley quipped, "They should be arriving here tomorrow."

" Playing a Thursday night game in Corvallis means changing the practice schedule. But, says Trojans Coach Pete Carroll, 'As long as you shift gears properly and get your days right, it's not an issue.'
